Freedom Walk set for Sept. 11

SIMI VALLEY -- The second annual Simi Valley Freedom Walk will be held at 5 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library Coordinates:

 to honor active and retired military and to remember the lives lost in the terrorist attacks six years earlier.

Simi Valley Days will be held Sept. 12-16, with a carnival at Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Avenue and Madera Road. The annual Simi Valley Days parade will start at 9 a.m. Sept. 15 and travel along L.A. Avenue from Erringer to Sinaloa roads. There will be a music festival from 5 to 11:30 p.m. Sept. 14, noon to 11:30 p.m. Sept. 15 and noon to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at Rancho Rimi Community Park, 1765 Royal Ave.

McCarthy to talk to Trade Board

PALMDALE -- U.S. Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Bakersfield, will issue a congressional update when he speaks Aug. 28 during an Antelope Valley Board of Trade luncheon.

McCarthy represents the 22nd Congressional District, which covers parts of northern Los Angeles County and most of Kern County.

The luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. at Cascades Grill at Rancho Vista Golf Course in Palmdale. Admission is $20. For information or reservations, call the Board of Trade at (661) 942-9581.

Ecologists lose water lawsuit

SANTA CLARITA -- Two environmental groups lost their court battle to invalidate the 2005 Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  Urban Water Management Plan.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Dzintra Janavs ruled last week that the plan adequately addresses future demands and also meets the requirements of state law.

The California Water Impact Network and Friends of the Santa Clara River Santa Clara River may refer to:

SANTA CLARITA -- When it meets Wednesday, the Hart Union High School District board will continue discussing a plan to test students for drugs.

The board discussed the idea last month of testing students involved in extracurricular activities, especially athletics, and will continue that talk with attorneys for the school district.

The board will meet at 6 p.m. in the district board room at 21515 Center Pointe Parkway.

Bridge-safety update sought

Los Angeles County supervisors will consider a proposal Tuesday to examine the safety of bridges in the local bridges.

The proposal from Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich Michael Dennis Antonovich (born 1939 in Los Angeles, California) is a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors representing the Fifth District, which covers northern Los Angeles County, the Antelope, Santa Clarita, Pasadena, and parts of the San Fernando and San  is in response to the fatal bridge collapse in Minneapolis.

Antonovich's district covers the Santa Clarita and Antelope valleys, which have numerous bridges spanning dry river beds.

Antonovich's motion calls on the county Department of Public Works to check if any local bridges are potentially hazardous and need modification. He also wants the department to report on whether current procedures for bridge inspections are adequate.

An outdated state report released after the Minneapolis disaster found serious problems with two freeway bridges in Valencia, but both structures had been replaced in recent years.
