REFURBISHED POOL REOPENS.

SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  - The city's most popular swimming pool was scheduled to open to the public Saturday Saturday: see week; Sabbath. , with $700,000 in improvements and new features.

The Olympic-size pool at Rancho Simi Rancho San José de Nuestra Senora de Altagarcia y Simi is one of the land grants in California by the Spanish government. The name derives from Shimiji, the name of the Chumash village here before the Spanish.  Community Park was rebuilt this year. Ventura County Environmental Health Division inspectors had threatened to close it because of code violations that included blistered fiberglass fiberglass, thread made from glass. It is made by forcing molten glass through a kind of sieve, thereby spinning it into threads. Fiberglass is strong, durable, and impervious to many caustics and to extreme temperatures.  at the pool's shallow end.

Officials of the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District say the new pool, just west of Royal Avenue and Erringer Road, is better than it was when it first opened in 1977.

The repair work started in January and was completed at the end of May, when some local swim groups began using the pool again.

The pool house has been refurbished and new landscaping planted nearby.

Public swimming will be held through Aug. 28 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday Sunday: see Sabbath; week. . The cost is $2 for people of all ages.

The pool was scheduled to open to the public for summer swimming Saturday and is also available to rent for private parties through the park district.
