REFURBISHED POOL REOPENS.

Byline: Daily News

SIMI VALLEY - The city's most popular swimming pool was scheduled to open to the public Saturday, with $700,000 in improvements and new features.

The Olympic-size pool at Rancho Simi Community Park was rebuilt this year. Ventura County Environmental Health Division inspectors had threatened to close it because of code violations that included blistered fiberglass at the pool's shallow end.

Officials of the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District say the new pool, just west of Royal Avenue and Erringer Road, is better than it was when it first opened in 1977.

The repair work started in January and was completed at the end of May, when some local swim groups began using the pool again.

The pool house has been refurbished and new landscaping planted nearby.

Public swimming will be held through Aug. 28 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The cost is $2 for people of all ages.

The pool was scheduled to open to the public for summer swimming Saturday and is also available to rent for private parties through the park district.
