REED ELSEVIER ACQUIRES SMALL INTEREST IN EDUCATION PUBLISHER.


Reed Elsevier (London), parent of recently acquired Harcourt Education Harcourt Education, is a publisher serving the pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12 school, assessment and trade publishing markets in the US and primary and secondary school markets internationally.  (Orlando, FL), has made an equity investment of $25 million in Riverdeep Group (Dublin, Ire. & Cambridge, MA), acquiring approximately 1.39 million newly-created ADRs for a 3.84% ownership in the company.

Riverdeep is a provider of K-12 e-learning solutions, including courseware Educational software. See CBT and OpenCourseWare.

Also, Harcourt Education and Riverdeep have entered into an alliance to develop interactive online instructional content. The products developed by the alliance will be owned, marketed and distributed by Harcourt and will carry the Harcourt brand. The deal closely follows Harcourt's purchase of Classroom Connect, a provider of professional development programs for K-12 teachers.
