RED WHITE BLACK & BLUE to Premiere at Locarno International Film Festival August 4, 2006; War Documentary is the Only American Film Selected for Festival's ''Critic's Week''.

LOS ANGELES -- Walk through one of the bloodiest battles of World War II with the soldiers who lived it in RED WHITE BLACK & BLUE, which will premiere at the 59th annual Locarno International Film Festival in Switzerland on August 4, 2006. The documentary will be featured as the opening film of the festival's Critic's Week section. E[acute accent]The documentary, directed by Tom Putnam, is the first film to tell the story of a secret Japanese invasion of Alaska in 1942, and the ensuing battle by American soldiers to thwart the first foreign presence on American soil since the War of 1812. Retired Army Major Bill Jones, a veteran of the 19-day battle that cost the lives of 4,000 men, returns to Attu Island to tell his story. His emotional struggle then, and 60 years later, forms the film's centerpiece. "We hear first-hand the terrible conditions these soldiers faced, sent into battle without proper equipment and facing an enemy they didn't understand. E[acute accent]At the trip's climax, Jones confronts a giant titanium monument placed by the Japanese government at the site of a particularly deadly banzai attack that Jones himself barely survived. Jones' anger over the Japanese monument, and his efforts to have it removed from the island, bring into focus the life-long scars many Attu veterans still carry from the battle.
