Systems from Munchy Ltd. of the U.K. consist of reclaim extruder, filtering device, die-face pelletizer for air- or water-cooled pellets, and manual and automatic feeding systems. Handle all thermoplastic film, sheet, non-wovens, bottles, flake, and blocked-bag cutout's from 20 to 3000 lb/hr.

New Vented Munchy repelletizing extrusion system reclaims film that has a high percentage of ink coverage or other volatiles.

AUSTRONIC INSTRUMENTS BLOWMOULDING TECHNOLOGIES INC.

Indumat recycling system for film, tape, monofilaments, bags, etc. A shredder, which preheats the material while cutting it into small pieces, is linked directly to the extruder. Preheating material saves half the horsepower in subsequent extrusion. Coarse filter ahead of the double slide-plate fine filter in the extruder removes large contaminants and thus prolongs life of fine filter. Hot die-face or strand pelletizing completes the process. Outputs to 2500 lb/hr.

BARRON INC.

Complete inline film and sheet edge-trim recycling systems, including take-away inducers or cutter-blowers, grinders and extruder-mounted fluff refeed machines. Options available for re-introduction of roll and loose scrap. Refeed rates to 1200 lb/hr on extruders from 2.5- to S-in. diam. Refeed machines can be mounted on extruder throat including round, square or oblong feed-throats.

Inline film-trim repelletizing systems including dual-diam. extruder/pelltizer for extrusion applications that require uniform, high-bulk-density repro or are reclaiming high percentages of scrap. Operable with materials such as LDPE, HDPE, PP, PS, ABS and coextruded blends at rates to 500 lb/hr. Scrap can be re-introduced accurately via gravimetric blenders. Other features include air- or water-cooled pelletizing, modular design with small footprint, and low noise level.

Plant scrap repelletizing systems for postindustrial scrap recovers costly roll scrap, cut-outs and other waste and reduces size of scrap to manageable inventory. Provides granules with minimum polymer degradation and no contaminants. Allows scrap to be accurately re-introduced into primary process with gravimetric blender. Can repelletize films with print levels up to 25%. Output rates to 1500 lb/hr.

BARTEX RECYCLING

Lines from Sikoplast GmbH are custom-built for most plastics. Use proprietary grinding and drying technology and a conical single-screw extruder connected to a polycondensation reactor, which upgrades PET's I.V. from 0.66 to 0.80. Also systems for recycling scrap into blown film, pipe, or profile.

LOUIS P. BATSON INC.

Revive systems from Sant' Andrea Novara of Italy process mixed resins contaminated with 5-20% paper, 5-8% aluminum, 5-10% wood, and 1-5% organic matter. Systems mix and extrude a narrow sheet 0.25-0.5 in. thick, which is hot-melt granulated for injection or extrusion. Includes shredder, granulator, 30:1 L/D extruder with 12 temperature zones, rolls, Ph-neutralizing water tank, hotmelt granulator, cyclone dryer, and deduster. Processes 220-990 lb/hr, depending on density.

CUMBERLAND ENGINEERING CORP.

Complete recycling systems for post-consumer PE film and PET or HDPE bottles. Produce clean flake or pellets at 1000 to 3000 lb/hr. Include bale breakers, granulators, materials handling, and prewash, hotwash and hydrocyclone separation systems. Also complete extrusion, polymer filtration, and pelletizing systems (strand or waterring), plus system-wide control packages.

EREMA NORTH AMERICA INC. PLASTIC RECYCLING SYSTEMS

Complete repelletizing systems and continuous densifers for in-house, post-industrial or post-consumer plastics recycling. Patented "warm-feed" system predensifies, size reduces and prewarms scrap before it enters the extruder. This minimizes heat history, resulting in low-material degradation. Recycling systems include automatic back-flushing screen changers or continuous "laser" filter systems, depending on the type and amount of contamination in the scrap.

Systems available for PE, PP, PA, PET and most other thermoplastics at rates from 50 to 5000 lb/hr.

Polycycle Year 2000 line recycling system for film bales, rolls, slabs, and small purgings allows one-step size reduction without a granulator. New shredder design feeds a single-screw extruder and pelletizer using hooks to grab and cut material and a ram to feed shredded material to extruder. Extruder can be 3- to 10-in. diam. with up to 48:1 L/D and optional venting. Systems can be tailored for throughputs from 600 to 10,000 lb/hr.

Aladdin and BottleSort systems for commingled post-consumer plastic containers use optical color and near-infrared sensors to segregate whole bottles of any resin and/or color: PET, HDPE, PVC, PP, PS, etc.

Sapphire system for mixed household trash uses near-infrared sensor to separate plastics, drinking cartons, and/or paper items from a mixed stream of residential waste.

Elpac system removes metallic contaminants from chopped plastics or aluminum cans from a mixed stream of recyclables. Removal efficiency is over 98% with less than 1% product loss.

Vydar system detects PVC particles in PET flake down to a size of 3 mm. Removal efficiency is over 95%.

Washing systems separate contaminants such as incompatible plastics, paper, wood, natural fibers, ferrous and nonferrous metals, organics, silica, clay, and grease.

Special direct-feed extruders have automatic force-feed hoppers, feed bushings, specially designed screws, degassing systems, and automatic screen changers with pressure control.

SRC VISION

Designs/manufactures machine vision systems capable of separating plastics by resin and color. Installations include flake sorters for separating colored and clear PET, caps from NHDPE milk jugs, and mixed color HDPE color into individual color streams. Whole bottle sorting systems can create high-purity streams of clear PET, green PET, NHDPE, HDPE, and PVC from mixed streams. Flake sorters can exceed throughputs of 10,000 lb/hr with better than 98% removal efficiency and less than 1% good product loss. Bottle sorters can handle up to 12,000 lb/hr with similar efficiencies.

STYROMELT INC.

Styromelt PD2000 plastic densification machine processes EPS waste at up to 20 lb/hr. Close temperature control prevents burning but reduces more than 95% of the volume of EPS foam products. Melted EPS is cast into bricks and ejected for recycling or use as an efficient fuel. Three to four garbage bags of EPS waste, or 1000 foam cups, make a 2-lb brick in about 3 mm PD2000 machine measures 81 x 45 x 23 in. Smaller model DP1000 can process up to 20 lb/hr.
