RECREATIONAL READING HIGHLANDS ELEMENTARY HOSTS A TRAVELING SHOW.

SAUGUS - Read California's Readapalooza Too kicked off its second statewide tour Friday at Highlands Elementary School Highlands Elementary School may refer to:

The traveling, interactive show promotes reading through a 20-minute performance featuring two characters, the Amazing a·maze

``It's a nice award for our kids,'' Principal Bob Moloznik said. ``It gives them good motivation for reading.''

The Readapalooza Too comes to Highlands Elementary Highlands Elementary was opened in 1996 and is for children in grades pre-k to fifth grade. Many changes have occurred in the schools history, including the after school clubs having electives. The school also has two bands.  in part as a celebration of students who were named among the the top readers in the state.

Taking on a challenge by the governor to increase reading time, Highlands kids read more than 4 million minutes during the last school year. The school was one of 400 statewide that received the governor's reading award.

Students and school officials are hoping to continue their challenge this year.

``The program has been expanded,'' Moloznik said. ``They have allocated more money to reward more schools this year.''

Award money received in May will be used to expand the library hours at the school, officials said.
