RECOGNITION AWARDS WILL HIGHLIGHT FUND-RAISER.

Palmdale School District's Education Foundation will present its Community Partnership Recognition awards and install officers at a Sept. 11 banquet.

Nearly 20 individuals and families will be honored at the third annual black-tie fund-raiser, for which tickets are $35 per person, $60 a couple and $260 for a table of eight.

The banquet will run from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Palmdale Cultural Center, 704 E. Palmdale Blvd.

Honorees include Faye Abney of the Smart Shop, Vicki Conner of High Desert Broadcasting, Eve Everette of the Antelope Valley African-American Museum, Mel Grussing of High Desert Hospital, Don Hacket and Marie Sliva of Westside Chiropractic, and Andrew Kennedy of the Los Angeles County Office of Education, administrative law judge Dana LaMon and Darrin Lim of Jones Intercable.

Also honored will be the Munny family from Palmdale Trophy, Emmit Murrell of Murrell's Independent Living and Boys Program, Miriam Nieves of the Fashion Design Training Center, Claudette Roberts of the Palmdale Water District, Palmdale Assistant to the City Manager Carol Siedl, Palmdale School District Superintendent Nancy Smith, Antelope Valley College trustee Earl Wilson and Ebe Winter of United Way.

The event will include a no-host cocktail bar and a sit-down dinner. Door prizes and a cruise for two will be given away.

Master of ceremonies will be radio personality Phil St. George of KHJJ-AM (1380) and Palmdale Playhouse cultural arts/theater manager Dea McAllister.

Entertainment will be provided by Marc Marcisso and The Together Jam band, local musicians who played with saxophonist Dave Koz at a May 30 foundation fund-raiser.

The celebration will include a special surprise for state Sen. W.J. ``Pete'' Knight, who with his wife will install the new foundation officers.

Founded in 1996, the nonprofit organization raises money for Palmdale school programs, including performing arts, academic enrichment, instructional technology and science and technology.
