 Congress & Exposition (October 3-6, 2001) was unveiled as the 2001 NRPA Congress Local Host Committee welcomed Denver Mayor Wellington Webb Wellington E. Webb (born 1941) is a former mayor of Denver. He is a graduate of the city's Manual High School, which was recently closed due to underperformance.

Webb served as mayor of Denver for 12 years, from 1991 to 2003.
, the Denver Chamber of Commerce, and NRPA staff to the Mile High City. The Mayor and local business leaders were able to hear about the many benefits of hosting an NRPA Congress and the importance of park and recreation services to building a strong sense of community.

During this meeting, NRPA Executive Director R. Dean Tice was honored for his dedication to the park and recreation field with a Mayor's proclamation An act that formally declares to the general public that the government has acted in a particular way. A written or printed document issued by a superior government executive, such as the president or governor, which sets out such a declaration by the government.  declaring March 24, 2000,
