REAGAN LIBRARY TO HOST DAY OF DEBATE HISTORY : JOURNALISTS WILL DISCUSS CAMPAIGNS.

Some of the nation's best known political journalists will discuss their experiences covering presidential campaigns Tuesday at the Ronald Reagan Library and Museum.

Through the recollections of speakers and panelists, other defining moments in past presidential debates will be discussed at the Reagan Center conference.

Shaw's keynote address will open the conference. Closing speaker David Broder has covered every presidential debate and campaign since 1960. The newspaper journalist is also a regular panelist on ``Meet the Press'' and ``Washington Week Washington Week (previously Washington Week in Review) is a public affairs program on the PBS. A panel discussion on ``Great Historical Moments'' will feature those involved in debates dating back to 1960. Moderating the panel will be longtime NBC News correspondent Edwin Newman, who also moderated a 1984 Reagan-Mondale debate and a 1976 debate between Carter and Gerald Ford.

Panelists scheduled to attend include:

Don Hewitt Now executive producer of ``60 Minutes,'' Hewitt produced and directed the first Kennedy-Nixon debate in 1960.

Sander Vanocur A network correspondent for 28 years, Vanocur was a panelist at the Kennedy-Nixon debate and at a 1992 debate among George Bush, Bill Clinton and Ross Perot, and was the moderator of the 1984 vice presidential debate between Bush and Geraldine Ferraro.

Herb Klein Now editor in chief of Copley Newspapers, Klein was an aide to Nixon and involved in meetings planning the 1960 Kennedy-Nixon debates.

Henry Trewhitt Now teaching at the University of New Mexico The University of New Mexico (UNM) is a public university in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was founded in 1889. It also offers multiple bachelor's, master's, doctoral, and professional degree programs in all areas of the arts, sciences, and engineering. , Trewhitt was a panelist in two presidential debates, when President Ford in 1976 was asked about Soviet domination of Eastern Europe and said Poland was not in the Soviet sphere of influence, and when President Reagan in 1984 addressed the age issue in response to a question from Trewhitt.

Lyn Nofziger A political consultant, Nofziger is a former journalist and a longtime aide to Ronald Reagan. He has been involved in numerous presidential campaigns and covered the 1960 Kennedy-Nixon debates for Copley Newspapers.

Susan Estrich A law professor at USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code. , Estrich was campaign manager for Michael Dukakis in 1988 and worked for the 1984 Mondale-Ferraro campaign.

Sam Donaldson of ABC News, now co-anchor of ``PrimeTime Live'' and former chief White House correspondent, will moderate the afternoon panel. The discussion will cover the format and future of presidential debates.
