REAGAN LIBRARY TO FETE PRESIDENTS EVENTS INCLUDE WASHINGTON'S BIRTHDAY.Byline: Daily News SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969. - A series of special events are scheduled for this week at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Center for Public Affairs and Museum, including a celebration of Presidents Day, George Washington's birthday and a cherry blossom festival. The library will celebrate Presidents Day on Monday with presidential look-alikes, storytelling and other activities for children. All Presidents Day activities are free, but regular museum admission applies to view the exhibits, including the new Air Force One Pavilion. On Wednesday, Washington's birthday, an original letter written July 13, 1796, by Washington to Secretary of War James McHenry James McHenry (November 16, 1753 – May 3, 1816) was an early American statesman. United States Constitution from Maryland and the namesake of Fort McHenry, the bombardment of which inspired the American national anthem Star-Spangled Banner. will be displayed in the museum. It will go on permanent display in the library's Gallery of Presidents, which also contains an original 1823 William Stone engraving of the Declaration of Independence. A ceremony unveiling the letter will take place at 10 a.m. Because the letter is on display inside the museum, regular admission rates apply. On Friday, a cherry blossom festival is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to noon. This is the debut of the festival designed to celebrate the friendship between the United States and Japan. The festival will focus on the beginning of spring and will include koto koto (kō`tō), a Japanese string instrument related in structure to the zither.
