CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 8, 1997--With its selection of Collins Pro Line 4 avionics for its new Canadair Regional Jet Series 700, Bombardier Regional Aircraft Division extends the tradition of one of the most popular and versatile avionics suites in the regional airline industry.

Collins Pro Line 4 avionics are produced by the Collins General Aviation Division of Rockwell Avionics and Communications.

Delivery of the Collins Pro Line 4 avionics system for the Canadair Regional Jet Series 700 is scheduled for late 1998, with certification expected in the fourth quarter of 2000. Deliveries will begin shortly thereafter.

The six-tube Pro Line 4 system for the Series 700 aircraft includes many of the same capabilities and functionality that helped make the Canadair Regional Jet an industry leader.

Side-by-side primary flight, multifunction and engine displays make operation, navigation and performance information exceptionally usable and convenient, thereby reducing pilot scan and increasing situational awareness.

Collins EICAS (Engine Indication and Crew Alerting System) performs extensive aircraft monitoring, providing an unprecedented level of crew information and confidence.

Sophisticated system logic, combined with sensors strategically located throughout the aircraft, provides real-time verification of the status of engine, hydraulic, fuel, electrical and other systems. This comprehensive capability supports an extensive maintenance diagnostic computer and display system which sorts, logs and analyzes aircraft information.

The Category II-certified automatic flight control system includes dual-flight director, digital air data and attitude/heading reference (AHRS) systems. The Collins Pro Line radio sensor package includes dual VHF comm, Mode S transponders, distance measuring equipment, automatic direction finders, VOR/ILS, digital air data systems, radio altimeters and radio tuning units.

Collins digital weather radar and TCAS II Traffic Alert and Collins Avoidance System are also standard.

Satellite navigation is provided through the optional Collins AVSAT 4000 Series satellite communications and navigation system. An integral part of the Pro Line 4 avionics system, the Collins AVSAT 4000 Series integrates the Collins FMS-4200 Flight Management System and GPS-4000 Global Positioning System sensor to provide GPS-based en route, terminal and nonprecision approach capability.

In addition, the FMS-4200 provides complete flight management capabilities - including SIDs and STARS, thrust and fuel management and VNAV guidance - for maximum operational flexibility.

Other program options include third VHF comm, HF comm and dual inertial reference systems (instead of AHRS).
