RCOA to Showcase World's First Mobile Biograph LSO PET/CT Scanner From Siemens.
BOCA RATON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 22, 2002
Mobile PET/CT imager offers community hospitals fast scanning,
high-quality images, premiere technology
Radiology Corporation of America (RCOA) will showcase the world's first mobile biograph(TM) Lutetium Oxyorthosilicate (LSO) Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography (PET/CT) scanner from Siemens Medical Solutions in Booth #6121 during RSNA 2002.
RCOA is a leading provider of PET scanning services in both mobile and fixed-site settings in nearly 80 hospitals around the U.S. Based in Boca Raton, FL, RCOA presently operates PET scanners in Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Washington State and performs in excess of 1,300 scans per month.
"Siemens' stellar reputation and its advanced technology offerings make it one of the leading PET manufacturers in the market today," said RCOA COO Don Meder, "and the company's mobile biograph LSO PET/CT scanner is an example of its cutting-edge technology."
"With the Siemens mobile biograph LSO, RCOA is now able to bring this advanced technology to hospitals, communities and physicians who may not otherwise be able to afford and take advantage of its outstanding diagnostic benefits," Meder said.
Meder said RCOA will begin offering biograph LSO PET/CT scans in early 2003 to healthcare organizations in Florida, Texas and the Northeast.
The biograph LSO merges three cutting-edge Siemens components - the ECAT(R) ACCEL(TM) PET scanner, SOMATOM(R) Emotion spiral CT scanner, and syngo(R) multimodality software - into a powerful scanning device that creates a precisely registered, high-quality molecular image in 15 minutes or less. Some users have reported whole body image times as short as seven minutes. The resulting image makes it possible for oncologists and other healthcare providers to view detailed anatomy and the biological processes of internal organs and living tissue at the molecular level in a single, noninvasive diagnostic procedure. The biograph LSO utilizes the unique, high-speed imaging of lutetium oxyorthosilicate as the PET scintillator to provide shorter scan times and unmatched patient throughput. Siemens, the leader in mobile technology, is the first manufacturer to bring mobile PET/CT systems to market.
