RAYTHEON WINS AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL CONTRACT IN OMAN

LEXINGTON, Mass., July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The Civil Aviation Administration of the Middle Eastern state of Oman has awarded a $6 million contract to Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) for the modernization of the air traffic control center at the international airport at Muscat.
The center will feature totally integrated radar data and flight data processing systems providing for increased air traffic control capacity.
Raytheon, which has designed and manufactured air traffic control systems for the past 40 years, won the contract over strong international competition.
"This contract is particularly significant," said Walter H. Stowell, senior vice president and general manager of Raytheon's Equipment Division, "because it gives us an opportunity to introduce our state-of- the-art equipment into the important Middle Eastern marketplace, with its strong potential for air traffic control system enhancements."
In 1991, Raytheon formed a dedicated organization to address the air traffic service needs of international customers. The Oman contract represents the organization's fifth major air traffic control win in the past 24 months following awards in Germany, Norway, The Netherlands, and India.
The Oman system will include proven, off-the-shelf designs from Raytheon and team member Ceselsa of Spain. As the turnkey contractor, Raytheon will integrate all of the project's elements, including radar and flight data processing, a data recording facility, a simulator, a software maintenance and development subsystem, and new, high resolution color workstations. Raytheon will also install the system and conduct site acceptance testing for the system, which is scheduled to become operational in 1995.
Raytheon, headquartered in Lexington, Mass., is a $9 billion, diversified, technology-based international company with sales in four business segments: Electronics, Aircraft Products, Energy and Environmental, and Major Appliances.
