RAYTHEON WINS $23 MILLION SONAR CONTRACT

 LEXINGTON, Mass., Oct. 25, /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Navy's Sea


Systems Command has awarded a $23.7 million contract to Raytheon Company

(NYSE: RTN) to refurbish a mine hunting sonar system and produce one spare towed body for the system.
 The contract calls for the refurbishment of an AN/SQQ-32 engineering development model sonar system , as well as delivery of the spare unit.
 The AN/SQQ-32 was developed and designed at Raytheon for Navy mine hunting ships. Raytheon has delivered 15 of the systems since the AN/SQQ-32 went into production in 1989. Three engineering development model systems were fabricated in the mid-1980s.
 The system returned for refurbishment has seen extensive service, including action in the Gulf War. Published reports indicated that Navy officials were "very pleased" with the system's performance during the war, locating all types of moored and bottom mines.
