RAYTHEON WINS $13 MILLION CONTRACT FOR ANTISUBMARINE WARFARE SYSTEM

LEXINGTON, Mass., Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- The Naval Sea Systems Command's Unmanned Undersea Vehicle (UUV) Project Office (PMO-403) has selected Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) to carry out the design phase of the MK 30 Mod 2 Anti-submarine Warfare Training Target System (ATS). The contract carries a value of approximately $13 million.
The MK 30 Mod 2 ATS, which will provide in-water training for submarine, surface ship, and aircraft crews to employ their sensors and weapons, is a 21-inch diameter UUV that emulates the movements and acoustic/magnetic signatures of threat submarines.
 C. Dale Reis, Raytheon vice president and general manager of the Submarine Signal Division, said, "Raytheon is pleased to design the Navy's newest underwater target. Raytheon's recent acquisition of Applied Remote Technology, Inc., whose expertise is underwater vehicles, combined with the system and sensor skills of Submarine Signal Division, qualifies Raytheon as a fully capable designer and producer of UUVs. Our joint proposal will provide the Navy with a cost-effective, reliable training target, which was a key requirement in the competition."
The Navy expects to follow the three-year prototype contract with development and production contracts for approximately 70 systems on existing 3-D underwater tracking ranges. The Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Newport, R.I., will provide technical direction for the work.
Raytheon's Submarine Signal Division, Portsmouth, R.I., and Applied Remote Technology, San Diego, design and build advanced electronic systems for submarines, surface ships, and aircraft, including the latest generation of minehunting sensors employed from surface craft, helicopters, and UUVs.
Raytheon, headquartered in Lexington, Mass., is a $9 billion, diversified technology company with sales in four business segments -- Electronics, Aircraft Products, Energy and Environmental, and Major Appliances.
