RAYTHEON TO RECEIVE NATIONAL AWARD FOR SUPPORT OF MINORITY BUSINESSES

LEXINGTON, Mass., Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Service Company, a subsidiary of Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN), tomorrow will receive the U.S. Small Business Administration's Award of Distinction, a national award that recognizes prime government contractors that possess exceptional programs for subcontracting to small and minority businesses.
The award marks the second time Raytheon Service Company has been chosen for the honor since the Small Business Administration initiated the program in 1985. It is one of only seven businesses in the New England region, and among only two percent of prime contractors nationwide, who have received the award.
Since 1989, Raytheon Service Company has placed more than $300 million in orders with small businesses in New England and other parts of the country.
"We are committed to our small business program," said Patrick M. Roddy, president of Raytheon Service Company. "It's fundamental, good business to share our work with smaller firms. It's important to the economy and to our company."
Robert J. Moffitt, associate administrator for procurement assistance at the Small Business Administration in Washington, will present the award to Raytheon Service Company Wednesday, Jan. 5, at 10 a.m. at Raytheon's corporate headquarters in Lexington.
In informing Raytheon of the award, Moffitt congratulated both Raytheon Service Company and its small business liaison officer, Dan Cavanaugh.
"Mr. Cavanaugh showed exceptionally strong support of the company's subcontracting program ," said Moffitt, "and played a very active role in promoting opportunities for small and small disadvantaged businesses."
Raytheon Service Company is one of the largest technical services companies in the nation, serving both U.S. government agencies and commercial customers. Based in Burlington, Mass., it is part of the Raytheon Engineers & Constructors group.
