RAYTHEON DIVISION AWARDED $4.5 MILLION NAVY SONAR CONTRACT

PORTSMOUTH, R.I., Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The Naval Undersea Warfare Center at Newport, R.I., has awarded a $4.5 million contract to Raytheon Company's Submarine Signal Division to develop a new sonar system called DCLASP, for Detection-Classification-Localization Acoustic Signal Processors.
DCLASP, based on a Raytheon-developed transportable signal processor, will be used to identify and track torpedoes automatically in complex circumstances such as multiple threats or extraordinary countermeasure activity. Raytheon will also provide the necessary software algorithms to achieve these objectives.
"This win," said C. Dale Reis, Raytheon vice president and Submarine Signal Division general manager, "recognizes the development of Raytheon's transportable signal processor, a full spectrum, compact acoustic signal processor used successfully by the Navy laboratories and currently serving Raytheon as a development model for a new shallow water active sonar.
"This processor provides a high-capability, low-cost test bed to evaluate advanced sonar concepts such as ship self-defense."
Raytheon's Submarine Signal Division designs and builds advanced sonars and combat systems for both submarine and surface ships. Its systems have been delivered to more than 15 nations around the world.
Raytheon (NYSE: RTN), headquartered in Lexington, Mass., is a $9 billion, diversified technology company with sales in four business segments: Electronics, Aircraft Products, Energy and Environmental, and Major Appliances.
