RAYTHEON DIVISION AWARDED $166 MILLION AIR FORCE CONTRACT

RAYTHEON DIVISION AWARDED $166 MILLION AIR FORCE CONTRACT
GOLETA, Calif., Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Air Force has exercised its option to a third contract and awarded a $166.6 million increase to Raytheon Company's Electronic Systems Division for AN/ALQ-184 electronic countermeasure pods.
The contract, issued by the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center, Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, calls for 200 pods to be used by F-15, F-16 and A-10 aircraft. Scheduled for completion by October 1994, the contract also covers automated support equipment, data, warranty and special test equipment.
The AN/ALQ-184 pod is the primary terminal threat self-protection system for use by a variety of tactical aircraft. A modified version of an earlier system, the AN/ALQ-184 offers higher radiated power, reduced response time, full software programmability, higher reliability, enhanced maintainability, and the capability to counter new generation threats.
The system experienced its first combat test in Operation Desert Storm and, according to one Air Force general, "was the most reliable electronic pod that we had."
Raytheon (NYSE: RTN), headquartered in Lexington, Mass., is a diversified, international, technology-based company active in electronics, aviation, appliances, energy and environmental services, construction and publishing. The company recorded sales of $9.3 billion in 1991.
