LEXINGTON, Mass., July 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The Missile Systems Division of Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) and Paravant Computer Systems, Inc., of Melbourne, Fla., today jointly announced the signing of a government-sponsored Mentor/Protege Agreement.
The mentor/protege program is sponsored by the Department of Defense to enable smaller "protege" subcontractors to gain new skills and thereby become more competitive.
Under the program, the DOD awards contracts to larger "mentor" firms to fulfill specific goods and service requirements, using the protege firm as a subcontractor.
Paravant, which specializes in the design and manufacture of portable computers, has served Raytheon in the past by providing remote terminal units for the Hawk missile defense system. Raytheon's Missile Systems Division, headquartered in Bedford, Mass., produces Hawk, Patriot, and other air defense missile systems.
"We're delighted to have this opportunity to extend our relationship with Raytheon," said Bill Craven, Paravant's vice president of marketing. "We have benefited greatly from our past association with Raytheon, and look forward to continued growth of our skills and capabilities under this arrangement.
"We're particularly excited about working with Raytheon in pursuit of a variety of potentially eligible programs. Paravant's rugged systems are particularly effective when placed in systems with Raytheon's command and control capabilities."
"We consider this a fine opportunity for Paravant, the DOD offices we serve, and Raytheon," said Carl Guild, Raytheon's Hawk programs manager. "We are aware of a number of programs with development requirements that can be met through a properly defined mentor/protege program. Our approach is to assess each program to determine how best mentor/protege funding might be structured to meet our mutual needs."
Paravant designs and manufactures rugged, long battery life, sealed, hand-held and laptop computer systems for a variety of outdoor computing environments, including products for Manpack and flight line applications, as well as in sheltered environments.
Raytheon, headquartered in Lexington, Mass., is a diversified, $9 billion technology company with sales in four business segments: Electronics, Aircraft Products, Energy and Environmental, and Major Appliances.
