Barbara Walters' interview with Monica Lewinsky Monica Samille Lewinsky (born July 23, 1973) is an American woman with whom the former United States President Bill Clinton admitted (after initially denying) to having had an "inappropriate relationship"[1] while Lewinsky worked at the White House in 1995 and 1996.  drew more than twice as many viewers as any other prime-time show show last week, giving ABC ABC

The special Wednesday edition of ``20/20'' with Lewinsky, which had an average viewership of 48.5 million, came on the last day of the sweeps period, when ratings are used to set local advertising rates.

It was ABC's best week since March 23, 1998, when it broadcast the Academy Awards.

ABC hadn't won any week in the ratings since November.

``Home Improvement,'' ending a two-part episode in which Jill had a hysterectomy hysterectomy (hĭstərĕk`təmē), surgical removal of the uterus. A hysterectomy may involve removal of the uterus only or additional removal of the cervix (base of the uterus), fallopian tubes (salpingectomy), and ovaries , tied with ``Frasier'' for a strong fifth place in the ratings.

With the sweeps period over, NBC reverted to reruns for its typically strong Thursday night lineup. That hurts the network's ratings.

ABC won the evening news ratings with an 8.5 rating. NBC had an 8.4, and CBS a 7.1.

A rating point represents 994,000 households, or 1 percent of the nation's estimated 99.4 million TV homes. The share is the percentage of in-use televisions tuned to a given show.
