wild-card race. Rapp also was on his way to his 12th loss of the season, which would equal his number of losses last year at Baltimore, and would be the most losses by an Angels starter in four years.

It was Rapp's quickest exit of the season, a mere 3 2/3 innings, and the fifth consecutive start he's failed to win (three losses, two no-decisions).

The last time wasn't all his doing. In a game at Kansas City Kansas City, two adjacent cities of the same name, one (1990 pop. 149,767), seat of Wyandotte co., NE Kansas (inc. 1859), the other (1990 pop. 435,146), Clay, Jackson, and Platte counties, NW Mo. (inc. 1850).  on Aug. 29, Rapp was hit on the right forearm by a line drive off the bat of Mike Sweeney and left after 4 2/3 innings.

This time it was different but no less painful.

In the third, Torii Hunter led off with a homer that tied the score 1-1. The Twins loaded the bases with one out on a single and two walks. Cristian Guzman's infield grounder scored a second run, then Rapp walked Doug Mientkiewicz to load the bases again.

Koskie then unloaded them with his grand slam down the right-field line to finish Rapp. It was Koskie's 25th homer and the second time in his career Rapp has given up a grand slam.

Troy Glaus singled home a run in the first inning to put the Angels ahead 1-0.

After the Twins went ahead 6-1, a two-out double by Jose Molina and a single by Darin Erstad got the Angels to within four at 6-2.

They made it 6-3 in the seventh on doubles by pinch hitter Orlando Palmeiro and David Eckstein, who snapped a skid at 0 for 17.

In the fifth, Eckstein was hit by a pitch for the 19th time this season, setting an American League rookie record.

Eckstein is one shy of the major-league rookie record of 20 set in 1956 by Hall of Famer Frank Robinson.
