RAMTRON MOVES INDUSTRY'S FIRST FERROELECTRIC RAM INTO VOLUME PRODUCTION
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Ramtron International Corp., a majority-owned subsidiary of Ramtron Holdings Ltd. (ADR - NASDAQ: MEMRY), today announced production availability of its FM 1208, 4K-bit (Kb) non-volative ferroelectric random access memory (FRAM)(R) product. The FM 1208 is available immediately from Ramtron through its authorized representatives and distributors.
"We are pleased to be shipping our first production parts to our customers and distributors," commented Ted Oseth, Ramtron's director of marketing. "General availability of production units will enable customers to confidently begin widespread design-in of our ferroelectric technology. This competitively priced product has the quality and reliability of today's mainstream non-volative memory technologies and provides customer advantages no other single non-volative technology is able to offer."
Ramtron's FRAM products are the first semiconductor memories to combine high-speed read/write performance, high endurance, low active power, and non-volatility without a battery back-up requirement. Applications targeted for FRAM products will include cellular telephones, electronic games, copiers, and other high volume consumer electronic applications.
The FM 1208 is the first member of Ramtron's FRAM product family which also includes 16Kb and 64Kb products currently under development. The FM 1208 is manufactured using 1.5-micron silicon gate CMOS technology with integrated ferroelectric storage cells.
Ramtron International Corporation, founded in 1984, develops, manufactures and markets FRAM products based on ferroelectric materials with unique non-volatile and high-dielectric constant storage characteristics. Ramtron's FRAM products are produced at the company's Class 1 six-inch wafer fabrication facility in Colorado Springs. The company also develops and markets CMOS high-performance specialty DRAMs. Ramtron holds 33 international patents covering its proprietary technologies and products with an additional 75 patents filed.
FRAM is a registered trademark of Ramtron International Corporation.
