RAMSAY HEALTH CARE ANNOUNCES VENTURE INTO SUBACUTE

NEW ORLEANS, May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Ramsay Health Care, Inc. (NASDAQ: RHCI) today announced the formation of a joint venture with Chi Group, Inc. to establish subacute units in several of RHCI's psychiatric facilities.
Following appropriate feasibility studies, portions of a select number of the facilities will be renovated to accommodate the needs of postacute medical, surgical and rehabilitation patients. Lengths of stay are expected to be approximately 25 days with the majority of patients being discharged to the community or home, rather than to other institutions.
The joint venture fits with RHCI's philosophy of expanding clinical services and developing strategic alliances with other medical providers in the communities where the corporation operates facilities. Two units are expected to be in operation by the fall, with three additional units identified and open by the spring of 1994.
The formation of this venture firmly positions RHCI as part of the solution to the problem of escalating cost of health care, as well as improving utilization of existing assets.
Chi Group, Inc. is a national health care consulting and management group headquartered in Ann Arbor, Mich., with offices in Chicago, Philadelphia and Winnipeg. They bring to the venture expertise in the development and management of subacute, rehabilitation and nursing home services.
Founded in 1983, Ramsay Health Care, Inc. is one of the nation's largest providers of psychiatric care, with full continuum of care including inpatient, partial, outpatient and residential treatment programs. RHCI has approximately 1,500 licensed psychiatric beds in 18 facilities across 12 states, as well as three free-standing day treatment facilities.
