RALLY DOWN BY THE RIVER MORE THAN 1,000 EXPECTED AT CLEANUP.

NEWHALL -- More than 1,000 volunteers are expected Saturday to pick up the tires, empty beer cartons, Big Gulp cups and grocery bags that litter litter /lit·ter/ (lit´er) stretcher.

Workers of all ages wearing gloves and hauling trash bags will clean the dry river bed of broken glass and other trash as part of Santa Clarita's annual River Rally.

The event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon in the creek bed behind the Newhall Community Center, 22421 Market St., Newhall. An environmental expo will follow.

The cleanup is an effort to beautify the immediate area while keeping the trash from ending up in the Santa Clara River Santa Clara River may refer to:

Clubs, student groups, Scout troops and families gather each year to help at the rally.

The expo will feature exhibits by more than 25 vendors, including those with information on recycling recycling, the process of recovering and reusing waste products—from household use, manufacturing, agriculture, and business—and thereby reducing their burden on the environment. , air quality, pollution prevention, open space preservation and wildlife conservation.
