RAJAKUMAR TEMPORARY CHIEF SEARCH IS ON FOR INTERIM SUPERINTENDENT.

LANCASTER -- Eastside Union School District trustees have appointed an assistant superintendent Assistant Superintendent, or Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), was a rank used by police forces in the British Empire. It was usually the lowest rank that could be held by a European officer, most of whom joined the police at this rank.  to act as interim superintendent while they search for a full-time interim superintendent.

 Rajakumar, who has been with the district since July 2004, will work in conjunction with newly appointed Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services Marcia Coburn to run the district.

``He will be holding down the fort while we search for a full-time interim. Hopefully, we will be able to get that done in the next few weeks,'' board President Janette Crawford said.

After finding a full-time interim superintendent, the board will embark on a search for a permanent superintendent, Crawford said. Board members are considering hiring an executive search firm to help find candidates.

Riccio will be on leave until Aug. 2, the effective date of the termination, and the board will pay him an amount equivalent to his monthly salary for the 11 months left on his contract, which expires June 30, 2007. The payments will cease when Riccio finds another job.

Riccio's total annual compensation is $128,791, consisting of a base salary of $112,000, $3,600 a year for a car allowance, $12,946 for medical insurance, and $245 for life insurance.

The board appointed Rajakumar at a special meeting last Friday. Before coming to Eastside, Rajakumar was a certified public accountant Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

An accountant who has met certain standards, including experience, age, and licensing, and passed exams in a particular state.

Riccio's leave until Aug. 2 is partially paid as he uses the vacation days he has left, officials said.

Riccio has served in a variety of school administrative positions in Connecticut, Illinois, Arizona and California, including a stint at the New View Union School District in Riverside County.

Before coming to the 2,700-pupil, five-school Eastside district, Riccio was superintendent of the 5,000-student, seven-school Torrington Public Schools District in Connecticut.

Prior to working at Torrington, Riccio was deputy superintendent Deputy Superintendent, or Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), was a rank used by police forces of the British Empire. In some territories it was called Deputy District Superintendent of Police (DDSP).  for a year in the Norwalk Public Schools district in Norwalk, Conn.

Riccio has a doctorate in comparative-international education from Loyola University Loyola University (loi-ō`lə), at New Orleans, La.; Jesuit; coeducational. The university was established through a merger in 1911 of the College of the Immaculate Conception (opened 1849) and Loyola College and Academy (opened 1904).  in Chicago.
