RAIN SYSTEM MAY DROP INTO AREA.Byline: Ryan Oliver Staff Writer The first measurable rain of the year could hit Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region, tonight after one of the driest Januaries since record-keeping began. On Monday the National Weather Service called for a 50 percent chance of rain tonight and a 70 percent chance Wednesday and Thursday. But Weather Service meteorologist Ben Moyer said Monday that it was too early to tell how much precipitation precipitation, in chemistry precipitation, in chemistry, a process in which a solid is separated from a suspension, sol, or solution. In a suspension such as sand in water the solid spontaneously precipitates (settles out) on standing. the storm would bring. ``There are some saying as little as a tenth of an inch (and) up to near an inch,'' Moyer said. ``It's really tricky Adrian Thaws (born January 27, 1968), better known as Tricky, is an English rapper and musician important in the trip hop and British music scene (despite loathing the "trip hop" tag). He is noted for a whispering lyrical style that is half-rapped, half-sung. because we're dealing with a system that's not even moving toward us at this point. There's so much dry air over us right now it's hard to tell.'' In January, downtown Los Angeles Downtown Los Angeles is the central business district of Los Angeles, California, located close to the geographic center of the metropolitan area. The sprawling, multi-centered megacity is such that its downtown core is often considered just another district like Hollywood or had no measurable rainfall in what is normally one of the city's wettest months. It was only the fourth January since 1877 in which no measurable rain fell. The total so far for the rain year, which began July 1, is 5.73 inches. The average for this time is 8.42 inches. The previous rain year was the city's driest on record. The lack of moisture has officials at the Angeles National Forest The Angeles National Forest (ANF) was established by executive order on December 20, 1892 as the San Gabriel Timberland Reserve. It covers over 2,600 km² (650,000 acres) and is located in the San Gabriel Mountains of Los Angeles County, just north of the metropolitan area of Los concerned about a serious wildfire season if the weather doesn't change soon. Tonight's storm is expected to push in from the southwest, with the system moving out by Friday. Moyer said today's daytime Daytime may refer to:
