Rains washed out a section of The Old Road near Calgrove Boulevard in Newhall in the afternoon, just in time to snarl evening traffic that was expected to be heavier than usual because of the three-day weekend.

In what is becoming routine, Friday's storm stranded residents of the Polynesian Mobile Home Park in Newhall, where the only access to the San Fernando Road San Fernando Road is a major street in the city and county of Los Angeles. It starts off in Castaic as The Old Road, passing through Santa Clarita and the Newhall Pass, where upon its intersection with Sierra Highway near the junction of the Golden State (I-5) and the  complex became impassable. Newhall Creek, which runs beneath the entrance, became a swift-moving river that stranded residents on the property or prevented them from returning home.
