R2 Controls today announced general availability of Modbus Communications Software (communications, software) communications software - Application programs, operating system components, and probably firmware, forming part of a communication system. These different software components might be classified according to the functions within the Open Systems  enhancements to its existing line of C-programmable industrial grade microcontrollers. The Gazelle is ideal for a wide variety of industrial processing applications requiring direct keypad access and text display capabilities, including manufacturing, automation control, fluid control systems and data logging. The R101 Gazelle includes a rich combination of industrial I/O interfaces including 30 digital I/O lines with high-current sinking/sourcing capability and input protection, eight 12-bit high-speed analog inputs, two 12-bit analog outputs, four16-bit timer/counters, two comparators, and four PWM/edge detectors. The Gazelle also includes two RS-232 serial ports (one may be configured for RS-485), real-time clock, watchdog timer, and expansion port capability using standard protocols such as SPI (1) (Stateful Packet Inspection) See stateful inspection.

The Gazelle includes 64 Kbytes of program memory for data storage requirements. Up to 8 Mbytes of Flash memory may be provided through the R2 Controls R203 Flash Expansion Board.

The R401 Development Kit is available to facilitate rapid end-user adaptation of the Gazelle. R2 Controls also provides telephone technical support to aid customers during project development and deployment.
