R.R. DONNELLEY PURCHASES PRINTING PLANT IN MEXICO
 CHICAGO, Jan. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co., the

world's largest provider of printing and related services, has signed an agreement to purchase 100 percent of the assets of Laboratorio Lito Color, S.A. de C.V., a printer of catalogs and other promotional material with operations in San Juan del Rio, Queretaro, Mexico (90 miles northwest of Mexico City), and Mexico City.
The San Juan del Rio facility is one year old and manufactures products for the Mexican domestic market, one of the fastest-growing markets in the world. The 40,000-square-foot plant is equipped with web- and sheetfed-offset color printing presses as well as a saddlestitch bindery. "In addition to catalogs, this plant will allow us to produce magazines locally for our Mexican publishing customers," said Jack Oberhill, R.R. Donnelley group president. The Mexico City facility will serve as headquarters for R.R. Donnelley (Mexico), S.A. de C.V., a subsidiary to be formed following approval by the Mexican government, and includes prepress and sheetfed press capabilities.
Jesus Ramos, 35, president of Laboratorio Lito Color, will preside over R.R. Donnelley (Mexico); Dale Rector, 45, formerly of R.R. Donnelley's Mattoon (Ill.) Division, has been named general manager. The company plans to expand the San Juan del Rio operation by 50,000 square feet to make room for a perfect binding line and another web press by the end of 1993. Upon completion of this expansion, the two locations will employ nearly 200 people.
R.R. Donnelley, which last year opened a new book printing plant in Reynosa, Mexico, and a sales office in Mexico City, is the world's foremost printer of catalogs, newspaper advertising inserts, magazines, books, directories, computer documentation and financial printing. Headquartered in Chicago, the company operates printing plants, service centers, sales offices and subsidiaries in more than 100 locations in North America, the Caribbean, Europe and Asia.
