 R.P. SCHERER APPOINTS HUGILL PRESIDENT FOR NORTH AMERICA
 TROY, Mich., Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- R.P. Scherer Corporation


(NYSE: SHR) announced the appointment of Herbert L. Hugill to the new position of president, R.P. Scherer - North America, effective Jan. 15, 1992.
 Hugill has been vice president, Sales and Marketing, for R.P. Scherer North America with responsibilities for the company's sales and marketing activities in the United States and Canada, a position which he assumed after the 1989 sale of the company. He joined the company in 1985, and after a series of promotions, was appointed director of Corporate Development in 1987. Prior to joining Scherer, Hugill had been national sales manager for Capsugel, a division of Warner-Lambert. Hugill has a B.S. degree in biology and chemistry from the San Diego State University and has served in the United States Marine Corps.
 In a series of related management moves, Scherer made the following appointments:
 -- Michael F. Cashman has been named vice president, R.P. Scherer - North America and will continue in his capacity as plant manager of the St. Petersburg, Fla., plant.
 -- Thomas J. Alexandris, in addition to his position of corporate vice president - Operations, and corporate officer responsible for Scherer's South American business segment, is appointed to the additional duty of president of Pharmaphil Division, Scherer's hard capsule operation in Windsor, Canada.
 -- Joseph A. Clark III is appointed to vice president, Sales and Marketing for the Pharmaphil Division and continues in his capacity as director, Sales and Marketing for Scherer's North American Pharmaceutical business segment.
 -- Len Mackie is appointed to the position of director of Hardshell Technical Services.
 In making these announcements, a Scherer spokesman said that "these moves were necessary in order to create a management structure which will be able to support the continued high growth we expect in this geographical segment."
