Reynolds Tobacco International Inc. has agreed to acquire from Oy Rettig Ab its tobacco subsidiary, Oy P.C p.c. (post cibum), n a Latin phrase meaning “after meals”; the abbreviation may be used in prescription writing. . Rettig Ab, the second largest tobacco manufacturer in Finland. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Oy P.C. Rettig Ab has two tobacco-manufacturing units in Finland with a total of 300 employees. The P.C. Rettig operations in Turku, which date back to 1845, produce cigarettes, roll-your-own and pipe tobacco. The other P.C. Rettig facility, located in Pietarsaari, manufactures cigars. The Pietarssari factory was founded in 1762. P.C. Rettig produces leading American-blend cigarette brands in Finland, such as Colt COLT. Rettig is also the market leader in pipe tobacco, roll-your-own tobacco, and cigars -- manufacturing about 75% of the cigars sold in Finland. P.C. Rettig has manufactured Camel cigarettes, one of RJR Tobacco International's global brands, through a licensing arrangement for 20 years. The acquisition provides RJR with well established local production in Finland, and gives the company an opportunity to invest in strengthening P.C. Rettig's local business as well as further developing export production. The Finnish cigarette market represents about 5 billion units annually. R.J.
