R.J. O'Brien and Associates, Inc. (RJO), the nation's largest independent futures brokerage, announced today that its customer assets grew 51 percent during 2005 to more than $1.71 billion.

RJO's performance in 2005 topped a 40 percent customer asset growth in 2004 and propelled the firm from 19th to 15th in the annual Futures magazine rankings of the "Top 50 Brokers" in the derivatives industry. RJO has grown dramatically in the rankings, published annually each December - from 27th in 1999 when RJO had $215 million in customer assets to 15th in 2005.

"RJO's record of integrity, customer service and technological advancement is clearly resonating in the world of derivatives, as evidenced by our outstanding growth record," said RJO's CEO Gerald F. Corcoran.

RJO's total revenues from clearing, execution, net interest income and other services grew to $206.5 million during 2005, a 32 percent increase over the previous year. RJO has set revenue records in each of the past 10 years.

During 2005, RJO, a member of the world's top derivatives exchanges, cleared and executed more than 29 million futures contracts (up 24 percent from 2004) and 9.2 million options on futures contracts (up 54 percent over 2004). RJO also became a clearing member of both the EuronextLIFFE and the Eurex exchanges, further expanding its global clearing capabilities.

In the past year, the number of Introducing Brokers, including guaranteed, independent and foreign, that RJO serves has grown from 207 to 259, a 25% increase. In addition, active open accounts increased 38% during 2005.

Corcoran said RJO plans to focus on continued growth in all key markets the firm serves in 2006. "As the largest independent futures brokerage, we at RJO recognize that we bear a unique responsibility in customer service. We will remain tightly focused on maintaining our reputation as not just the largest independent, but the best brokerage firm in the business," Corcoran said.
