 R. RIPP AND M. H. VAN VRANKEN ELECTED IBM VICE PRESIDENTS
 ARMONK, N.Y., Dec. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The IBM (NYSE: IBM) board of directors has elected Robert Ripp and Michael H. Van Vranken as IBM vice presidents, the company announced today.
 Ripp, who is IBM treasurer, joined IBM in 1964 and held various financial and planning management positions before being named controller of the General Technology Division in 1977.
 Ripp was named director of finance for the General Business Group in 1979 and became director of financial analysis at IBM's corporate headquarters in 1981. He was named vice president, plans and controls, for the Entry Systems Division in 1983.
 In 1986 Ripp was named IBM director of finance and planning, IBM corporate headquarters, and in 1988 he was named assistant general manager, finance and planning, Enterprise Systems line of business. He was named IBM treasurer in 1989.
 Ripp earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y., and a master's degree in business administration from New York University.
 Van Vranken, who was IBM controller, has been named assistant general manager, finance and planning, Technology Products line of business.
 He joined IBM in 1965 in the corporate accounting department. He held various management positions before being named site controller, Data Systems Division, in 1978. Two years later, he was named manager, plans and controls, for IBM's Poughkeepsie plant. Later in 1980, Van Vranken was named controller of the Systems Communication Division and in 1982 was named director of accounting operations, IBM corporate headquarters.
 Van Vranken was named IBM director of accounting operations, IBM corporate headquarters, in 1984 and group director of accounting operations and financial systems in 1987. He was elected IBM assistant controller in 1988 and IBM controller in 1990.
 Van Vranken earned a master's degree in business administration from Columbia University.
