Quest Software Migrates and Manages Active Directory for U.S. Army Accessions Command; Quest Software Products Ensure Continuity of Microsoft Infrastructure for Army Training and Recruiting.

IRVINE, Calif. -- Quest Software Inc. (Nasdaq:QSFT), a leading provider of application, database and Windows management solutions, today announced that U.S. Army Accessions Command (USAAC) has successfully completed the migration of its Microsoft Windows NT servers to Microsoft Active Directory and its migration from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003. USAAC was one of only three Army organizations to complete the phase-out of Windows NT operating systems by the Dec. 31, 2004, Army deadline. Quest was also instrumental in the U.S. Forces Korea migration, one of the other two Army organizations that met the deadline.

USAAC is a subordinate command of the Army's Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) and is charged with providing integrated command and control of the recruiting and initial military training for the Army's officers, warrant officers and enlisted forces. USAAC has 2,300 remote recruiting stations globally.

Quest worked with USAAC to develop, test and execute three Active Directory forest implementations and user migrations to Windows Server 2003 and Exchange 2003, along with associated server consolidation. The result was greater efficiency and a single e-mail service to support 18,500 users throughout the United States. Approximately 14,500 of the users are remote laptop users, connecting primarily via dial-up and virtual private network (VPN).

"This was an extremely important project. If connectivity to any of our networks had been disrupted during the process, we would have lost access to mission-critical communications, recruiting and training tools," said Michael Moore, NSS branch chief of USAAC. "The Quest team enabled USAAC to migrate seamlessly and comply with our migration deadline."

Several Quest products were used for the project. Quest Reporter was used to assess the existing Windows NT domains prior to migration and will be used for ongoing operations management reporting on Active Directory domains. Quest ActiveRoles Direct was used to streamline user administration in Active Directory through role-based delegation and business rules. Quest migration products were used to reduce the cost and effort involved in the process of migrating to Active Directory and Exchange.

The migration team also used Quest MessageStats for reporting on the Exchange environment as part of the Exchange migration and Quest ActiveGroups to automate and secure the accuracy of distribution list membership.
