Working with Docent Asia Pacific Pty Limited in Sydney, Australia, the agency standardized on Docent Enterprise(TM) to provide up to 7,000 emergency care officers and 40,000 volunteers with the training necessary to help save lives and property, and protect valuable natural resources.

Queensland DES oversees all phases of emergency and disaster management, including prevention, preparedness, response and recovery. It provides fire, ambulance, and counter disaster and rescue services to more than 3 million citizens across a region roughly one quarter the size of Australia. The massive scope and time-critical nature of these operations demanded a robust platform for enhancing and tracking the skills of its fire brigade officers, ambulance officers, other emergency personnel and volunteers across the state.

Following an exhaustive procurement effort, Queensland DES selected Docent Learning Management Server(TM) (LMS) and Docent Learning Content Management System(TM) (LCMS) to correlate learning initiatives with organizational, departmental and individual goals. Today, Docent provides Queensland DES with massive economies of scale and significant savings across its learning programs, by addressing its strategic focus on enhancing the delivery of operational services, including both multi-service and multi-agency training.

The first departments to benefit from the new On-Line Campus are Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) and Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS). QFRS recently gained recognition for traveling to assist at the highly publicized firestorm near Sydney.

The On-line Campus allows QFRS to deliver, schedule and track accredited courses online. The system augments live exercises delivered at its state-of-the art Fire and Rescue Academy and other facilities, where it carries out simulations such as chemical, biological and radiological (CBR) training.

QFRS also uses the new On-Line Campus to measure effectiveness against department and agency goals, by allowing managers to access, analyze and update existing training records for the Department's operational staff. In the future, rollout will expand to training managers, administrators, curriculum managers and training consumers across the state, as well as its volunteer corps.

Docent Meets Strict Standards for Government Compliance

As a Registered Training Organization (RTO) in Australia, Queensland DES must meet reporting standards mandated by the Australian Government under the Australian Vocational Education and Training Management Information Statistical Standard (AVETMISS). The guidelines require that RTOs record and measure the proficiency and competency levels achieved by personnel and volunteers accessing curriculum it delivers under the "Nationally Recognised Training" brand. Docent makes it possible for Queensland DES to meet the requirements of the AVETMISS standard, ensuring accurate and timely record keeping for accredited training occurring within the organization.
