He was vice-Chancellor of Laval University Laval University, at Quebec, Que., Canada; Roman Catholic, coeducational, French language; chartered 1852, an outgrowth of a seminary established 1663 by Bishop Laval. In 1876 a branch was established in Montreal, which in 1919 became independent as the Univ. from 1969 to 1972 and succeeded Cardinal Maurice Roy Maurice Cardinal Roy (January 25, 1905—October 24, 1985) was a Canadian prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as Archbishop of Quebec from 1947 to 1981, and was elevated to the cardinalate in 1965. as Archbishop of Quebec City in 1981. He was made a Cardinal in 1985. He retired in 1990. The remaining Canadian cardinals are Edouard Gagnon, 88, retired; and active Cardinals Aloysius Ambrozic Aloysius Matthew Cardinal Ambrozic (born January 27, 1930) is a Roman Catholic cardinal and Archbishop Emeritus of Toronto.
