Qualstar intros RLS-4470 rackmount tape library.

Qualstar Corporation (Nasdaq:QBAK), a manufacturer of automated tape storage solutions, has announced its new RLS-4470 rack mounted Built into a cabinet that has a standard width of 19" or 24". All types of electronics and computing devices come in rack-mounted packages, including servers, test instruments, telecommunications components, tape drives and audio and video equipment.  automated tape library, which enables companies to store more than 18 terabytes (TB) of corporate-critical information in a minimum of space.

The RLS-4470 confirms Qualstar's position as the market leader in shipment of AIT-equipped tape libraries. The RLS-4470 holds up to 70 Sony AIT-3 cartridges in a compact 5U form factor, for a total storage capacity of more than 18 terabytes (compressed). Operating as many as four AIT drives simultaneously yields a very high data transfer rate of up to 449 gigabytes per hour, or one terabyte One trillion bytes. Also TB, Tbyte and T-byte. See tera and space/time.

in little more than two hours, enabling firms to rapidly backup and restore vital data.

"AIT has become the technology of choice for many mid-sized business that are faced with the challenge of managing large amounts of data in limited space," said John Woelbern, director of OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  tape storage solutions marketing for Sony Electronics' Business Systems and Solutions Company. "Qualstar's integration of Sony's AIT-3 drives in the RLS-4470 rack mounted library allows for a wide range of cost- effective and space-efficient automated solutions that combine advanced technology with capacity and reliability."

The RLS-4470 broadens Qualstar's complete line of rack mounted libraries, with total capacity ranging from 2 terabytes to more than 18 terabytes. Its Simply Reliable design extends Qualstar's reputation for delivering dependable, long-lasting products to the market. In addition, the company announced that its RLS-4445 AIT automated tape library, introduced at last year's Comdex conference, can be easily upgraded in the field to offer the greater storage capability of the RLS-4470.

The RLS-4470 can be easily converted in the field to run under Fibre Channel, or other emerging protocols such as iSCSI, through the use of Qualstar's IPM (1) (Impressions Per Minute) Generally refers to document scanners that scan both sides of the page at the same time. Thus, a scanner that scans at 100 ppm (pages per minute) can provide 200 ipm. See ppm and document scanner.  (Interface Personality Module) architecture.

"Companies tell us they need more storage capacity, but don't have unlimited space to house larger and larger libraries," said Bob Covey cov·ey
