Qualix Group acquires rights to TranScript print-management software from Adobe Systems; TranScript 4.1 now available from Qualix.

TranScript is a suite of programs that enables UNIX UNIX

Operating system for digital computers, developed by Ken Thompson of Bell Laboratories in 1969. It was initially designed for a single user (the name was a pun on the earlier operating system Multics).
 applications to communicate with and print to PostScript printers, film recorders and imagesetters. The agreement calls for Qualix to provide all future product development, as well as support for new and existing users. The installed base of TranScript program users is currently estimated at 750,000.

``We will maintain Adobe's existing partner programs with associates, and plan to offer future TranScript software customers new developer and associate programs,'' said Jean Kovacs, executive vice president of Qualix Group. ``Additional product development will begin immediately, with a major new release of TranScript, version 5.0, scheduled for the fourth quarter of 1995.''

TranScript Launches System Administration Product Line Expansion

This new expansion includes products such as TranScript, which converts non-PostScript language files such as Tek 4014, Diablo 630, troff, nroff, plot and ASCII ASCII or American Standard Code for Information Interchange, a set of codes used to represent letters, numbers, a few symbols, and control characters. Originally designed for teletype operations, it has found wide application in computers.  into PostScript language files -- preventing compatibility problems on the UNIX network.

TranScript software also provides users with the ability to send a fax to any PostScript printer with fax capability using the Motif GUI (Graphical User Interface) A graphics-based user interface that incorporates movable windows, icons and a mouse. The ability to resize application windows and change style and size of fonts are the significant advantages of a GUI vs. a character-based interface.  or command-line interface.

``Qualix Group has been selling TranScript software and supporting end users since early 1993. They've been very successful in marketing, selling and distributing TranScript to the UNIX market,'' said Dano Ybarra, business manager of the Display Products Group at Adobe Systems.

TranScript 4.1 is shipping now. It is available in both source and binary forms. Prices start at $495 for binary code binary code
