Qsan Accelerates IP Storage Solution with Silverback Systems' iSNAP(R).

CAMPBELL, California Campbell (IPA: /ˈkæmbəl/) is a city in Santa Clara County, California, part of Silicon Valley, in the San Francisco Bay Area. [2] As of 2007 population estimates, Campbell's population is 39,200.  & TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Qsan Technology Inc. and Silverback Systems today announced that the Silverback Systems' iSNAP2110 will power the new Qsan P series IntelliRAID iSCSI RAID controller A disk controller card that supports one or more RAID configurations. Originally only for SCSI drives, RAID controllers have become very popular for PATA and SATA drives. See RAID. . The P series is an iSCSI based 8- or 16-channel SATA II See SATA.  RAID controller.

The P series controller enables solutions costing as low as $2 per GB, roughly 1/5 the cost of traditional systems. Silverback Systems' iSNAP2110 enables the P series RAID controller to provide low cost, high performance networked storage over IP using the industry standard iSCSI protocol.

Qsan's P series IntelliRAID solution is targeted at small and medium business environments, for use in data storage systems, disk-to-disk-to-tape back-up systems, virtual tape libraries A hard disk array that emulates a tape library. A virtual tape library (VTL) enables the storage medium to be switched from tapes to disks while continuing to use the existing tape backup software. See virtual tape system and storage virtualization.  and near-line back-up systems. The iSCSI acceleration provided by the iSNAP2110 enables class leading iSCSI performance of the P series controller, and allows IT departments to drastically shorten the time required to perform back-ups.

Qsan's design team set strict requirements for its iSCSI acceleration engine, and selected Silverback Systems' iSNAP2110. Key factors included industry leading performance of more than 250,000 IOPS IOPS Input/Output Per Second

In addition, the iSNAP2110 consumes only two watts per channel for the dual-port, two-gigabit storage network acceleration processor, enabling smaller, more reliable, lower power and lower cost solutions.

"Networked storage, whether it is front line access and retrieval or back-up and archiving, is all about performance," said Eric Kao, director of sales and marketing at Qsan. "With the iSNAP2110, small and medium enterprises are assured of superior performance and functionality at a reasonable price, along with unprecedented level of intelligence built in the Qsan P series natively."

"With iSNAP, we provide an accelerated converged networking solution," said Ahmet Houssein, Silverback Systems' president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. . "We are providing Qsan with a software and firmware A category of memory chips that hold their content without electrical power. Firmware includes flash, ROM, PROM, EPROM and EEPROM technologies. When holding program instructions, firmware can be thought of as "hard software."
