QVC SHINES WITH 'GEM DAY' -- TAKING IN MORE THAN $13 MILLION; SUNDAY, SEPT. 12, 1993, SECOND-HIGHEST DAY IN QVC HISTORY

 WEST CHESTER, Pa., Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- QVC (NASDAQ: QVCN) shined Sunday, Sept. 12, when its 24-hour Gem Day posted more than $13 million in sales, making it the second-highest day in QVC history, the company said today.
 This marks a 30 percent increase over last year's Gem Day. The average ticket price was $80.
 In announcing the results, Douglas Briggs, QVC's executive vice president-Electronic Retailing, said, "These are fantastic numbers. Even for QVC, who has always had a very successful jewelry business, Sunday's performance was outstanding."
 Gem Day merchandising featured precious and semi-precious stones set in sterling silver and 14-carat gold. Gems like diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds were available to QVC customers throughout the day.
 QVC, the nation's largest shopping channel, is transmitted live, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It currently reaches more than 46 million homes via cable, and 3 million homes with satellite dishes.
