QUICKTURN DESIGN SYSTEMS APPOINTS NEW CFO; RAYMOND OSTBY BRINGS FINANCIAL ACUMEN TO MARKET LEADER

 MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Quickturn Design Systems Inc. today announced the appointment of Raymond K. Ostby as vice president of finance and administration and chief financial officer. Ostby, 46, brings a broad base of high-technology financial management experience to Quickturn.
 "Ostby has gained invaluable acumen as CFO of Force Computers Inc., CFO of Atmel Corp. and controller for Intel Corp.," said Quickturn president and CEO Keith R. Lobo. "It is precisely this senior-level financial expertise that Quickturn requires to further enhance its leadership in the EDA community." Ostby's duties at Quickturn began Sept. 7.
 Privately held Quickturn pioneered reprogrammable systems and software and developed the first reprogrammable emulation system for custom integrated circuits and application-specific integrated circuit (ASICs) development. Quickturn is a dominant player in the fast-growing ASIC emulation-systems market.
 Since 1991, Ostby oversaw all financial functions, human resources, facilities, information systems and office services at Force Computers, a $70 million company that has logged 38 consecutive quarters of profitability. Located in San Jose, Force produces a mid-range computer for embedded applications targeted at the medical-instrument, robotics, factory-controls and telecommunications fields.
 Ostby performed similar duties at Atmel Corp., a $200-million semiconductor manufacturer with 1,000 employees, also located in San
Jose. When Ostby joined Atmel in 1985, the company had only


20 employees.
 From 1978 to 1985, Ostby held a variety of financial-management positions at microchip manufacturer Intel Corp. including senior controller at the Santa Clara headquarters, controller of European operations and director of corporate accounting.
 Ostby attended and taught financial management at the University of California at Berkeley. He received a bachelor of finance in 1971 and an M.B.A. in 1972 from the University of Montana, and he is a CPA. He lives in Saratoga, Calif., with his wife Natha.
