QUESTIONS ONLY ANSWERED ON THE TRACK.Byline: Kevin Modesti INGLEWOOD - At the historic events, ometimes the most important handicapping takes place after the race has been run. So it is with last Saturday's Preakness Stakes Preakness Stakes One of the three classic U.S. horse races making up the Triple Crown. It is held annually in mid-May at Baltimore's Pimlico Race Course. The course distance is 1³⁄₁₆ mi (1.9 km). The field is limited to 3-year-old Thoroughbreds. . The handicapping question for posterity is this: Did Red Bullet Red Bullet (foaled 1997 in Kentucky) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse best known for winning the 2000 Preakness Stakes. Bred and raced by auto parts magnate Frank Stronach, he was sired by Unbridled, the 1990 American Champion 3-Year-Old Male Horse and winner of that year's win the race, or did Fusaichi Pegasus Fusaichi Pegasus (pronounced [ɸɯ.sa.i.tɕi]) (foaled April 12, 1997) was purchased as a yearling for $4 million by Fusao Sekiguchi. lose it? Their trainers will never agree. Neil Drysdale thinks Fusaichi Pegasus didn't handle the wet track and failed to run his race in the Preakness. Drysdale says, in effect, that Red Bullet caught the Kentucky Derby Kentucky Derby One of the classic U.S. Thoroughbred horse races. The answer comes from looking at the performances of two other horses in the Preakness. As Fusaichi Pegasus lost touch with Red Bullet in the home stretch, he barely held onto second from 19-1 shot Impeachment impeachment, formal accusation issued by a legislature against a public official charged with crime or other serious misconduct. That's a lot to assume. The logical conclusion is that Fu Peg was off his game that afternoon at Pimlico, whether because of the footing or because he needs longer than two weeks between races. This means that - at least for now - Fu Peg is no superhorse. One mark of greatness is the ability to win when conditions are against you. Such a deal would seem to be good for both companies. It would give Churchill another major property to go with Hollywood Park and Miami's Calder racetrack. It would secure the future of Arlington, which was closed for the 1998 and 1999 racing seasons as owner Richard Duchossois sought state economic breaks. The independent-minded Duchossois, who bought Arlington in 1983 and rebuilt it after a fire in 1985, is the question mark in the negotiations. Reports say he would get $80 million and enough stock to make him Churchill's largest stockholder at 25 percent. --Churchill nation: An example of what a company can do when it owns multiple racetracks is Saturday's pick-three, linking races at Churchill Downs, Calder and Hollywood Park. Called the Churchill Downs Simulcast Network Pick Three, the $1 wager will challenge fans to connect the winners of Churchill's 10th race, Calder's 12th and Hollywood's fourth, all scheduled to be run in the space of 23 minutes.
