QUARTZ HILL WOMAN'S CLUB HAS ITS 40TH BIRTHDAY.Byline: Bettie Rencoret Senior Columnist columnist, the writer of an essay appearing regularly in a newspaper or periodical, usually under a constant heading. Although originally humorous, the column in many cases has supplanted the editorial for authoritative opinions on world problems. Quartz Hill Woman's Club members celebrated the club's 40th anniversary with a bash in the Lane Park community building that attracted a coterie of local civic leaders and political aides. Representatives also came from clubs within the Sierra Cahuenga District, California Federation of Woman's Clubs. Rex Moen, state Sen. Moen prefaced his remarks by saying he was first up because he was the youngest. Lasagna, who was last in the rotation, claimed she was the orneriest. But it was Burleson, who contended she was the cutest, who got the biggest laugh. She started to read her certificate before presenting it to President Helen Beam but stopped midway. To her chagrin it said ``Happy 40th Wedding Anniversary '' ``You know, I read that over at least a dozen times today and this is the first time I've noticed that,'' she laughed. Recovering her embarrassment well, she promised there would be a replacement. Five of the club's 50 charter members attended. They are Elsie Majors, charter president; Neta Rephun, Gertrude Poe, Reba Nash and Letitia Bostain. Laurie Henion-Dager, now of Chatsworth, headed a contingent of former Quartz Hill Junior Woman's Club members. Henion-Dager, who was Juniors president back in 1959, explained that the senior club was formed that year because her group needed a senior club sponsor. ``Normally, the senior club is chartered first and then it sponsors the junior club,'' she said. ``We had already been in operation for three years so we just reversed process.'' In those days, she said, the streets weren't even paved pave tr.v. paved, pav·ing, paves 1. To cover with a pavement. 2. To cover uniformly, as if with pavement. 3. Henion-Dager now belongs to the Chatsworth Woman's Club. ``I went to convention this year,'' said Henion-Dager, ``and I was amazed a·maze v. a·mazed, a·maz·ing, a·maz·es v.tr. 1.
