McDonald was ordered to stand trial after a preliminary hearing Monday.

The defendant had told authorities that there had been an argument and that he was drunk, Cromer said. The defendant could not remember what the argument was about.

McDonald's attorney could not be reached for comment.

The defendant was sentenced in April 2002 to three years in state prison. He has been transferred to county jail awaiting the murder trial.
