Quartz Hill's No. 2 singles player, has emerged as a rising star in local tennis circles.

On Saturday Saturday: see week; Sabbath. , the two met in the title match of a tournament their team hosted.

Quartz Hill won the tournament with 18 team points, six more than second-place Moorpark.

Quartz Hill had three of the varsity level's singles and doubles finalists, and had two semifinalists in the freshman/sophomore division, whose results counted in the team standings.

Litchfield defeated Smith 6-1, 6-2 in the title match.

``It's good and bad,'' Litchfield said. ``I've played (former teammate Prapti Singh) before, and it's nice because you get to goof off v. i. 1. To shirk one's duties; to avoid work by relaxing or performing idle activities.  a little bit and have fun, but it's bad because I really want Carolyn to win, but I'm not going to let her beat me.''

Quartz Hill's doubles partners Renuka Rudra and Nisha Kurani advanced to the title match, where they lost to Lancaster's Jesica Abraguin and Linda Reickgenannt.

In the freshman/sophomore division, Quartz Hill's Danielle Koss and Navolito Ikahihifo advanced to the semifinals.

All six players Quartz Hill fielded in the tournament were involved in winning at least one match, which contributed to the team's scoring total.

``I think it was nice that everyone got to contribute,'' Quartz Hill coach Bill Lenaway said.

Lenaway said one of the most important aspects of competing in early-season tournaments such as the one his team hosted was developing ``match-toughness'' for the playoffs and the remainder of league play.

Quartz Hill, the defending Southern Section Div. IV semifinalists, has won 18 consecutive league titles.

``The main thing is to get people a lot of matches, and we had most of our girls on the court all day,'' Lenaway said.

Winning combination:

Reickgenannt, a junior German exchange student, and Agraguin became Lancaster's first doubles team to win a title at the tournament, which was hosted by Palmdale for at least 20 years before being moved to Quartz Hill this season.

``I'm very excited to play here in America and win a medal,'' Reickgenannt said.
