QUARTERLY CAR SALES UP SLIGHTLY; MARCH SALES EQUAL TO LAST MARCH
ATLANTA, April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Car and truck sales increased about 15 percent for Ford dealers in the seven-state Atlanta region during the first three months of this year, compared with the first three months of 1991, said Leo Warner, Ford Division regional sales manager.
Lincoln-Mercury dealers sold 20 percent more cars during the same period, reported Dave Reis, Lincoln-Mercury Division regional sales manager.
The number of Ford and Lincoln-Mercury cars sold during March 1992 was about equal to the amount sold in March 1991.
"The first quarter provided growing evidence that a gradual recovery in the auto market finally is underway," said Robert L. Rewey, vice president-Sales Operations, Ford North American Automotive Operations.
"Total industry sales improved again on an annual rate basis in March, as they did in February. Now that consumer confidence is beginning to turn up, we're convinced that the auto market is poised for a sustained advance."
Sales increased for the Atlanta-built Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable compared to last March. Taurus' March sales were up 33 percent, compared to March 1991. Sable sales increased 22 percent for March.
Ford truck sales also increased in the Atlanta Region during March. Ford Division dealers sold about two trucks for every car. Increases were: Aerostar, 62 percent; Econoline, 48 percent; F-Series, 39 percent; and Explorer, 24 percent.
