 QUARTER-MILLION DOLLAR BENTLEY TO MAKE PITTSBURGH AREA DEBUT;
 ALMOST 'SOLD OUT' FOR 1992
 SEWICKLEY, Pa., Nov. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The Bentley Continental R, a new $261,800 high performance Bentley, was shown to the media here today for the first time. Almost the entire 1992 production of the motor car allocated to the United States has been sold.
 The Bentley, built by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, is a full four-seat turbocharged coupe combining high technology with aerodynamic styling and luxurious amenities.
 Commenting on the preview tour of the United States of a pre-production model, Howard Mosher, president and chief executive officer of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Inc., said that although the Continental R will not be available until February 1992, $30,000 deposits have been placed on almost all 90 scheduled to be built for the U.S. market in 1992.
 The Continental R is the most significant Bentley to be built since World War II, Mosher noted, because it is the first Bentley model in 40 years not to share a body style with a Rolls-Royce counterpart.
 A world leader in motor racing in the '20s, Bentley was acquired by Rolls-Royce in 1931.
 Mosher called the Continental R "a motor car for the connoisseur, and a logical extension of our plan to develop the Bentley line to broaden our market beyond the traditional Rolls-Royce buyer and to separate the two marques."
 The new Bentley has been designed for the motorist who wants a sporting "grand touring" motor car that combines impressive performance and high speed handling with the luxury and quality of a Rolls-Royce, he said.
 Sleeker than previous Bentley models, the Continental R is powered by a 6.75-liter turbocharged V-8 engine and will accelerate from rest to 60 mph in under seven seconds. Top speed has been electronically limited to 145 mph. The four-speed automatic transmission can be instantly switched from normal to high performance gear shifting patterns.
 The two-door Continental R has been given eye-catching styling with a hint of the look of the historic high performance Bentleys of earlier years.
 A sweeping console with a built-in cellular telephone extends from the instrument panel to the rear seat. Other features include automatic ride control, anti-lock brakes, driver-side air bag, seven-inch-diameter headlights with power washers, heated seats with lateral and powered lumbar support, a 10-speaker concert-hall-quality audio system with compact disc player, and a built-in diagnostic system to aid fault- finding and analysis.
