Establish Wireless Communications Standardization

QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), the leader in mobile communications for the transportation industry, today announced it has formed a wireless heavy equipment consortium. Joining QUALCOMM Wireless Business Solutions'(QWBS) consortium are global construction equipment leaders, Komatsu America International Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tokyo-based Komatsu Ltd., and United Rentals, the world's largest equipment rental company.

QUALCOMM's solutions enable heavy equipment manufacturers like Komatsu to further improve customer service and support programs while strengthening their global data networks. For multi-OEM equipment fleet owners like United Rentals, QUALCOMM's solutions will help optimize asset utilization and reduce owning, operating, maintenance, theft and insurance costs. In addition, OEM equipment fleet owners will see improved customer service and new revenue sources, as well as tightly integrated fleet service vehicles.

QUALCOMM established its wireless heavy equipment consortium to include industry-leading manufacturers and fleets, and to create standardized mobile communications solutions for the heavy equipment industry. QUALCOMM's consortium will include the development of satellite, terrestrial and multi-mode wireless communications solutions based on a common, modular, ruggedized hardware platform. These wireless solutions connect to QUALCOMM's wireless data network management center, the largest and most reliable in the industry. Equipment manufacturers and heavy equipment fleets are invited to join in the QUALCOMM consortium to provide input on standardized mobile communications solutions for the industry.
