) announced the availability of a complete family of 51 new 3.3-volt high-performance LCXPlus(TM) logic devices.

These new LCXPlus devices bring the benefits of Bus Hold and Output resistors to the 5-volt tolerant standard LCX family. They utilize QSI's existing LCX production experience that has been in full production fo over a year. The new LCXPlus family consists of octal, 16-bit and 32-bit bus interface functions. These devices are ideally suited for 3.3-volt application such as laptop computers and portable equipment. The 5-volt tolerant inputs and outputs allow interfacing in a mixed-voltage environment such as data processing, telecommunications, networking and mass storage markets. All LCXPlus devices from QSI are designed for hot-docking and hot-swapping applications.

"QSI has packed exceptional features into the new LCXPlus logic family, according to Richard Nedinsky," QSI's marking manager for logic products. "The LCXPlus family brings the design engineer added features such as guaranteed low noise, and a bus hold option."

Outstanding Features

Bus Hold enables a logic device to retain its last valid logic state after the input signals are removed from the device. This eliminates the need for external resistors to ensure that CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) Pronounced "c-moss." The most widely used integrated circuit design. It is found in almost every electronic product from handheld devices to mainframes.  inputs are not floating. Output resistors improve the signal integrity in designs by reducing output overshoot and undershoot un·der·shoot
n.
A temporary decrease below the final steady-state value that may occur immediately following the removal of an influence that had been raising that value.
 with minimal impact on speed.

In addition, LCXPlus offers C-speed with guaranteed propagation delay as low as 4.1ns. QSI provides the features needed by the system designers. The LCXPlus family features very low power consumption with typical 100nA standby current. Five-volt tolerant inputs and outputs enable interfacing with other 3.3-volt or 5-volt components on the same bus, thus avoiding the need for voltage translation.

Designers can use the 5-volt tolerant feature of the LCXPlus family to migrate from mixed 5-volt/3.3-volt systems to pure 3.3-volt systems without redesign or requalification. This means faster time to market and lower inventory costs.

The 8-bit functions are available in SOIC (Small Outline IC) A small-dimension, plastic, rectangular, surface mount chip package that uses gull-wing pins extending outward. See gull-wing lead, SOJ and chip package.  and space saving QSOP QSOP Quarter Size Outline Package

Price and Availability

The complete LCXPlus logic family is available from stock. The 1000 piece pricing for typical LCXPlus products such as the QS74LCX2245Q in a QSOP package is $0.69 and the QS74LCX162245PV in an SSOP package is $1.24.
