: QPCI) "QPC," today announced that Paul Rudy Ph.D., QPC Senior Vice president, Marketing & Sales, will be an invited speaker at the Photonics in Homeland and National Security Conference Thursday, May 10, in Baltimore, MD, as part of the industry leading Conference on Photonic Applications, Systems and Technologies (PhAST).

Dr. Rudy's presentation is entitled, "Developing High-Brightness Semiconductor Lasers for Homeland Security and Defense Applications." Highlights of remarks prepared for his presentation include:

* New applications in homeland security and defense are enabled with high-performance direct semiconductor lasers in the near infrared, eye-safe and mid infrared wavelength regime.

* New direct semiconductor applications include rangefinding, LIDAR, targeting, countermeasures, bio-chemical agent detection, and directed energy weapons.

* Recent breakthroughs that enable these new applications include increased spatial brightness, increased spectral brightness, and extended wavelength range from high performance semiconductor lasers.
